Casa do Fasco | Peneda-Gerês National Park | Country House

Description

The word 'Fasco' is part of the Castro dialect. It means the stubble and straw that remains mixed with the rye grain after threshing. On the threshing floor of the house where we used to thresh, the wind would blow hard and blow the chaff away, leaving the grain clean and ready for storage. That's why our house is called Casa do Fasco.

We don't know for sure the year it was built. We know that it was a villa at the end of the 19th century. At the beginning of the last century, it was acquired by the family of Esperança Afonso, the current owner, and used as an animal shed and hayloft to house the dry hay that fed them during the harsh winters. In 2022 the family decided to restore it to receive guests, maintaining its original architecture and typical of houses with a patio and porch.

The house consists of two double bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite bathroom, and a single bedroom with a shared bathroom on the ground floor, and a service bathroom on the ground floor.

The rustic-style kitchen is equipped to prepare your meals as you would at home. The warm ambience of the living room with its fireplace invites you to relax and socialise over a cup of coffee or a good wine.
